RYA Windsurfing Level 1 – Start Windsurfing, Windsurfing Youth Stage 1 / Youth Stage 2

Course cost: £149 Adult, £105 Youth

An ideal introduction, teaching you the basics of getting on the water and sailing the board across the wind and back

Assumed Knowledge: None
Course Content: Teaches you the basics of windsurfing using the right equipment
Equipment used: Basic sails to Neil Pryde and JP equipment. Bic and JP boards.
Ability After Course: Able to sail to a chosen point on the water and return to where you started from in light winds
Minimum Duration: Saturday 9am till 2pm – Sunday 9am till 2pm (2 days)
Minimum Age: 8-16 Youth 16+ Adult

RYA Windsurfing Level 2 – Intermediate (non planing), Windsurfing Youth stage 3 / Youth stage 4

Course cost: £149 Adult, £125 Youth

Practical skills to get you sailing around a course practising tacking and gybing, enabling you to make progression towards and away from the wind

Assumed Knowledge: RYA Windsurfing Level 1 – Start Windsurfing
Equipment used: Basic sails to Neil Pryde and JP equipment. Bic and JP boards.
Course Content: New techniques such as the beachstart and harness work will get you ready for the excitement of blasting control. Beachstarting and gybing are taught either as a separate clinic or within the course, tailored to an individual’s needs and the teaching environment
Ability After Course: Able to sail on all points of sailing in stronger winds, using beachstarts and faster tacking and gybing
Minimum Duration: Saturday 9am till 2pm – Sunday 9am till 2pm (2 days)
Minimum Age: 8-16 Youth 16+ Adult

Windsurfing 2

RYA Windsurfing Level 3 – Intermediate (planing)

Course cost: £149 Adult, £125 Youth stage 3

Set up your board and rig correctly, enhance your stance on all points of sailing and introduce basic harness techniques in stronger winds. Now’s the time to hook in and hang on

Assumed Knowledge: RYA Windsurfing Level 2
Equipment used: Basic sails to Neil Pryde and JP equipment. Bic and JP boards.
Course Content: New techniques such as faster tacks, use of the harness and getting in the foot straps, will get you ready for the excitement of blasting control. Beach starting and the basic technique of the carve gybing are also taught within this course or as separate clinics, tailored to suit individual’s needs and the environment.
Ability After Course: Be able to sail on all points of sailing in a variety of conditions using faster tacks and the harness, giving you a true feeling of just how exhilarating this sport can be. As you progress through this level, you will also be able to use the foot straps and understand the beginnings of a carve gybe.

RYA Assistant Windsurfing Instructor Training

Course cost: £180

The AI is a competent intermediate non-planing Windsurfer, who has been trained to assist instructors in teaching windsurfing up to the standard of Youth Stage 1 and adult Start Windsurfing courses. They must work under the supervision of an RYA senior instructor (SI) Windsurfing. 

Eligibility
Candidates must hold the RYA Windsurfing Scheme intermediate non-planing certificate and have the recommendation of their centre’s Principal.

Training
Training and assessment are conducted by the Principal or chief instructor of the training centre who holds a valid RYA SI certificate Windsurfing. The training may be based on a 20 hour course covering RYA teaching for beginners (criteria available from RYA Training). Candidates will be assessed on their teaching ability with beginners. Successful candidates will have their logbook signed and will be awarded the AI certificate by their Principal. 

Certificate Validity
The AI certificate is valid only at that centre for five years.

Equipment Hire
The centre is open for hire all year providing you hold level one or above certificates or are of sufficient competency in the craft that you are hiring.
£15 per hour or £40 per day, all craft equipment must be off the water by 6pm.
